SIMPLE DESIGN, COMPLEX TONE

Gravis is an electric bass guitar that is as simple as it can get. One pickup, one tone control and a mono output – Thats it! Yet, this will be one of the most versatile bass guitars you’ll get your hands on! Thanks to its freely movable pickup, you have all the usual positions such as neck, middle or bridge but also everything in between. With the tone knob on the back side of the instrument, you have a set & forget low pass filter (passive) that will not distract you. Gravis works with the exact same pickups that I use on the cosmo guitars – they work across instruments!

SOUND

Its sound can be open and resonant, but also fat and bulky. The natural body resonance is less pronounced than on the Cosmo guitar, but it still gives the tone a wonderful wooden depth that makes it strong in character. The shorter scale length creates shorter sustain and powerful attack compared to other full scale basses. Depending on whether you use round wound or flat wound strings, you will get a progressive or traditional sound that finds its place in all genres. Whether it’s rockMotown, or jazzgravis will take you there.

COLORS

The sheet metal is powder coated in RAL colors with a glossy surface in industrial quality. The thick coating is tougher than a painted surface and therefore does not flake off immediately, even with strong impacts. The surface ages similar to a regular plastic pickguard. It will bear its marks, especially by the movement of the pickups, and will develop a patina over time.
The color representation of the following pictures varies depending on the monitor used – therefore a RAL color fan is recommended.

TYPES OF WOOD

I am convinced that native tone woods are in no way inferior to tropical woods and, for sustainable reasons, I only use native timbers. Three types of wood are always available: ash, maple and walnut. Also cherry, pear, apple, plum or oak can be realized on request. Since every tree and thus every wood is unique, we will discuss the details, such as grain structure and fiber course, in the building process. The wood is carefully selected and stored for years. The veneer of the headstock, the fingerboard, the neck as well as the pickups and the bridge are all made from the same piece.

Simple but detailed

The neck appears simple, but is designed with great attention to detail: the reversed headstock has a deep drop from the nut and is angled with 5°. Because of that there are no string trees needed and tuning stability is increased. It is equipped with jumbo frets, which are carefully rounded or hemispherical at the fret ends, Schaller M4 Bass machine heads, a bone nut with inserted steel dowel pin (also in Tusq/vegan), an dual action truss rod, a solid brass bridge. The steel body is connected to the neck with only one screw and is locked in precisely and without any play.

Mono bags

Gravis is designed to have the longest possible string length while still fitting in a regular guitar bag. The Mono sleeve bag is the right companion for Gravis not only because of its clean look: Its patented head locking system protects the instrument from impacts and drops. The top-loading system allows quick access and the comfortable padding allows you to carry the bag for hours, while magnetic quick-release sternum straps provide additional support by relieving pressure on your shoulders.
